How to Protect Your Vehicle From Hail Damage

We all know North Texas is notorious for storms, and those storms often carry hail. The trick to protecting your vehicle from hail is being proactive and knowing ahead of time what your options are.

Garage

Of course the best place for your vehicle is safe in your own garage or covered driveway. However, that’s not an option for everyone. You may not have a garage, or space in your garage to accommodate your vehicle.

Covered Public Parking

When you are out shopping or going to work, look for covered public parking. When a storm is fast approaching and you don’t have a garage at home that will work, you will know just where to take your vehicle. Think about shopping centers or mall parking garages. However, if you don’t have time to locate covered parking look for an overpass or gas station canopy instead.

Large Buildings

They may not shield your vehicle completely, but if you know which direction the storm is approaching from, park your vehicle on the opposite side of the building. If the storm is approaching from the east, park on the west side. By utilizing the large building you are using its coverage to hopefully keep your vehicle safe from the worst part of the storm. If the wind is strong enough, the building may completely shield your car from damage.

Blankets

If all other ideas will not work, locate as many old blankets as you can. Lay them over your vehicle and tape them down with duct tape. Be careful not to put the tape directly on your vehicle. Duct tape could leave behind tape reside in unwanted places. Another alternative to a blanket is purchasing a car cover.
