How to Inspect Your Vehicle for Hail Damage

If you’ve lived in North Texas for long, you know hail is a standard part of our weather here. It is important to do what you can to protect your vehicle from hail damage, but sometimes it just is not possible. Once the hail storm has passed it is important to access your vehicle for hail damage. But do you know what to look for?

Glass

When looking over your vehicle, check for broken, chipped, or cracked glass. First, check your windshield, then check your side and back windows as well. Cracked glass could impair your vision while driving. It also could shatter while you are in your vehicle, if it is cracked enough, making it a safety hazard to you and your passengers.

Mirrors

Next, check your side mirrors. First, it is important to note that they are still there and the hail has not knocked them off. Second, if they are there, check their joints. Make sure they are still properly attached with no signs of potential failure. You should be using your mirrors to access your surroundings while driving, if they are damaged it puts you and others’ lives at risk.

Dents

Last, check the body of your vehicle for dents. Dents from hail can be located anywhere, but specifically check the trunk, hood, door jambs, doors, and sides. Hail produces dents in all sizes, big and small, so if it is a dent on your vehicle it could be from hail.
